Eighty-Eight. Still At It!

Presented by the Christopher Moller Gallery.

Age is but a number for significant Ghanaian artist Professor Ablade Glover who heads toward his ninth decade with a body of work that speaks of an intensity of perception and deep appreciation for the dynamic world around him. A longstanding contemporary art icon in Ghana, Professor Glover’s work stands in amazement as he continues to challenge creativity regardless of age.

With each collection, Professor Glover brings more intensity and energy to the table – no detail is spared, the richness is heightened and a sense that life is a deep and joyful experience is acute.

It is our privilege and absolute pleasure to be sharing in this seminal artist’s continued art journey and extraordinary contribution to contemporary art, in his 88th year.

One of the few philosophical areas I sometimes venture into – The people, our people! Who are the people? The faceless masses? The people without power? I have noticed from an early age when the struggle for African independence commenced to this day, everybody, uses the “people” or rather “Power to the people”, and then dumps them powerless thereafter. I am intrigued by the innocence, the naivety, the plight of the people with the power. The power lies in the people in electing the elected official. But often is the case once the official gets elected, the people become powerless.
— Ablade Glover
